I am a Shanghai-based professional Chinese-English translator. I am a native English speaker (UK). I have lived in Taiwan and China for most of the last 18 years, have 21 years of formal and informal Chinese language study and I have 16 years of translation experience (I have done work for many government bodies, museums and leading companies in Taiwan, high-profile foreign companies in China and also reputable European translation companies.) I have a BA (Hons) in Politics & East Asian Studies (University of Newcastle upon Tyne, 1990) and a Diploma in Translation (Institute of Linguists, UK), a qualification that recognizes my competence as a professional translator. I am a full, professional-grade member of the IOL, a widely-respected professional translator and interpreter’s organization. Membership number: 022420.
I am comfortable working with both Simplified and Complex characters and I am familiar with the differences in language use in Mainland China and Taiwan.
I say with confidence that my Chinese-English translations are as good as any you will find anywhere, but my price is significantly lower than what you will be charged by international translation companies for similar quality. Cut out the middleman. Contact the person who actually does the translation directly.
If you don’t care about quality and don’t want to spend much money…there’s a lot of choice out there…
But, if you have an important document (including contracts, laws, business and technical documents), and understand that to ensure you get excellent quality Chinese-English translations you really need a translator who is a native speaker of English, has outstanding Chinese language ability, is qualified, experienced and conscientious (not everyone realizes this!), and want pristine quality for a reasonable price, I am the man for you. I work fast and really care about my work.
I can work in your office (in Shanghai or fairly close by only) and sign a confidentiality agreement if required.

*For work up 2500 characters (3-4 page of A4 Chinese) I can usually give same-day delivery (at a slightly higher rate than normal).
*My normal daily output is around 4000 Chinese characters. In special circumstances I can do up to 10,000. When necessary, I am able to call n the services of a few other trusted (experienced and capable) native English speaking translators allowing me to complete large pieces of work in a limited time period.
*I welcome long-term or regular cooperation (I can sign a contract with clients for same-day service for daily/regular work like business/industry newspaper reports, press releases etc) and offer special rates for volume work. |
