So far there is no policy about the Philippine maid working in SH. If she can't get a work permit, theoretically speaking she can't work in China. However, tour visa regarding Lvisa or X visa regarding intern practice may help. Just for your consideration.

For tour visa, I think you need to let her going back to HK every several months, which is rather costly and troublesome.

I actually have the same problem. I'm moving to Shanghai in a few months and want to take the nanny of my 1 year-old daughter with me. Getting her a tourist visa would be no problem. However, is there any chance that I can get this extended in Shanghai? In any case, what needs to be presented to extend it?
As for my wife and daughter, I was advised to simply present the marriage contract and birth certificate. Not sure how this applies to the maid/nanny.

Visas easy to extend in Shanghai, done it many times.

Thanks for the advice. Suffice to say, the maid comes in with a tourist visa and extending her visa in Shanghai won't be a problem? Any advice on which documents would need to be presented to the visa office?

You will jsut need her passport, passport photos and the pink Temporary Registration Form that you obtain from the local polcie station. Don't forget to register her with the police along with yourselves to get the pink form. Most important!!
