Temporary housing advice

I have a family friend coming to Shanghai this summer on an internship.

I am seeking advice on homestay arrangements for recent college graduates with American and/or British families currently residing in Shanghai.

Any advice?

I think you will be very lucky if you find anything. Most expats are only here for the short term (1-2 yrs) and have enough on thier plate already.

There are many travellers hotels that are cheap. I have known people to live in them long term. They are very basic, but it is a room. Sorry I don't know any names of these hotels. Try looking them up in Lonely Planet.

There are some home stay schemes with local Chinese families which would be eaiser to find than expats. It would also be a very good cultural experience for them. I agree with Tigerbay abt the luck in finding an expat family to stay with.

If you google homestay shanghai there would be a few schemes. Generally wealthy famileis wanting some English around the house in exchange for free board and food.

My roomate got kicked out for visa reasons.

so if your friend still needs a place to stay, ask him about what he thinks of living next to JingAn temple.

found this one too: Motel168 Chifeng Hotel (Asiarooms.com) I tried one of their hotels in a different city (SuZhou) and liked it. They say here the room rate is only 44$! I'm considering staying in it, the above one when I first arrive in shanghai.
