Need a briefing on Suzhou

Hi,

I'm an Aussie who has been offered a teaching job at a TAFE affiliated Chinese college that prepares students for academic studies in Australia. I need the lowdown from expats about Suzhou. I would like to know if there is a sizeable expat community engaged in working and playing there. I don't mean getting drunk at pubs. I'm interested to know if there are clubs of any shape or form that don't make one feel so distant from the Western world.
