Posted by A (2052 days ago)
Appreciate if someone could advise how much does an Ayi expects to get for general (house) cleaning, maybe occassional cooking and babysitting. Thanks!

Thank u Fatso, for your brief on ayi's. I am coming in May and would need an ayi, could u recommend one? I don't need them to speak english. I can be reached at ak.wong@pacific.net.sg. Thank u.

On average an Ayi would be paid approximately RMB1500/month (USD180). 6 days a week, 8 hours a day. The duties would normally include cleaning, washing, ironing and cooking. Babysitting could also be included although may be considered as overtime at an agreed hourly rate.

Salaries for Ayi's should come down:
For regular house work (cleaning, dishes, clothes washing , ironing) the Chinese will pay 5-8 rmb an hour.
I paid 250 a month for an Ayi to come every weekday for 2-3 hours. She herself said that 250 was OK instead of the mentioned 300. She did 3 households a day and also got some tips and small gifts etc.
I have been trying to get an Ayi on the "foreign market" where a lot of english speaking agents introduce you to their "relatives", who they "know and recommend". All bull. On this market I have to pay approx 1500 rmb a month for a fulltime Ayi who speaks almost no English. I have heard that the agent takes 40% and keeps the ID papers of the Ayi as collateral.
My S.O. is a university educated teacher - she studied hard to get into Uni and was really scraping the bottom finacially to make it. She is now a teacher making 1200 rmb a month. Why should a "uneducated maid" be paid more? This "foreign market' is just crazy - if her english is really good and you need that then I can understand it, otherwise be a bit tougher on the basic salary and then you can give some bonus' etc if she really does a good job. Stay away from the agents.

Thanks for the info. Actually I'll need a part-time Ayi to come in, say, once or twice a week for 2 hours or so. Any idea?

i pay my filipino ayi, 5,000rmb a month shes very good in english, very clean and well organise at home, and she is verygood of cooking aswell, think about your paying 5.to 8 rmb to your ayi aday, you think its reasonable price to them...... how much you earn as an expat here in china? and you know the cost of living here, you think a 5rmb can buy food to her.?sometimes expat here in asia do underdog to ayi.... i never say i earn alot but i just think the situation of ayis doing hard work everyday, and pay nothing............
