American moving to Shanghai Posted by annemarie415 (270 days ago) I am a 33 year old single female from Minneapolis, MN USA moving to Shanghai. My office is located in HongQiao district. I would like to live in this district as well, as I will be walking to/from the office. Is this a good area to live in? I need nightlife, I am very social, would like to be among other expats. My company is paying up to $15,000RMB per month for my living allowance. It looks like this should get me a very nice place. Any comments or advice is very appreciated. Find what you are after in our Shanghai A-Z Directory  Posted by stonewang (269 days ago) Actually Hong Qiao is a pretty nice place for living. and if u need the social life, there is a nice place where many bars and nice resterants, that is in Hong Mei Road near Yan An Road (W), many foreigners there. I guess u will enjoy it. Posted by tigerbay (255 days ago) You are only a short cab ride to the downtown area, from Hongqiao. You have a good choice of restaruants, and international food stores. Gubei phase one was built from 1992 so most apartments in its central area are older. Gubei phase two has the newer apartments but there's still alot of construction going on so take care on your selection. Make sure you get a well established block like Rich Garden, Gubei International or Hua Li jia Ju. There's another popular block in the north area which is called Yanlord.
